Chuck graduated from Towle High School in Newport, N.H. in 1959 and earned a bachelor’s degree from New England College in 1965. Chuck began his profession in Education as a teacher then principal at the Swasey Central School in Brentwood, N.H. In 1976, Chuck and his family moved to Sunapee N.H. where he continued his teaching career in both Newport and Sunapee. During that time Chuck was an active member of the Sunapee Lions Club.
Upon retirement, Chuck became a crossing guard at the Sunapee Elementary School. The town of Sunapee officially proclaimed the first day of school, “Chuck Goyette Day”. Chuck lost his battle with cancer on December 31, 2014.
Jim first came to Sunapee as a Keene State College student in the mid 1960’s, completing his student teaching at Newport Middle High School. Having grown up in northern New Hampshire, on a dairy farm, he appreciated the vibrant atmosphere of Sunapee Harbor during that time, as well as the natural beauty of the area. Upon graduation, Jim moved to Sunapee and began his professional career as an Industrial Arts teacher at Newport Middle High School.
After 17 years of teaching in Newport with wonderful colleagues, Jim started his own construction company in Georges Mills. He also served the community he loved in many volunteer capacities. For the town of Sunapee he was a firefighter, library trustee, and a member of the school board, the water and sewer commission, and Lions Club. He was an avid fan of the Sunapee Lakers and served many a burger or hot dog to players or fellow fans on the baseball field he helped raise money to build through his volunteer efforts with the Lions Club. Jim lost his battle with cancer on October 25,2020.
When the Sunapee Lions Club ceased to operate, the remaining club members decided to create a scholarship fund to honor the commitment and service of two of their longer serving members, Jim Currier and Chuck Goyette. Both educators at heart, and in practice, who had tremendous love of their community.
This golf tournament is being held to raise funds to keep scholarships available for future graduates, and to continue to celebrate Jim and Chuck.
